Edinburgh is the historic heart of the Scottish Reformation. John Knox preached at St Giles' Cathedral on the Royal Mile, and the Church of Scotland's General Assembly still meets in the city each May. Alongside the Kirk, the capital supports Catholic, Episcopal, Free Church and a wave of newer congregations serving students and newcomers.
